Answer: Yes, meditation is important to psychic development. As a matter of fact, it’s the foundation of psychic development! Without meditation, even the most naturally gifted psychic will only be mediocre. People have a lot of excuses for not meditating. I know because I make excuses too. But what I’ve noticed is that when I slack off on meditating, my general clarity will begin to decline. I’ve grown used to relying on a certain level of intuition in my life and it doesn’t take me long to notice what I think of as static or interference in my intuition.
Meditation, or getting yourself into a meditative state, is how a psychic-medium learns to distinguish between their regular thoughts and feelings and psychic impressions or spirit channelings. Once you learn how access the still point of your mind, information comes through more clearly and you can feel confident that you are receiving psychic impressions instead of imagining or calculating. Anyone can improve their intuition by meditating. If you are naturally more talented with your intuition than the average person, meditation can help you grow into a more accurate intuitive channel.
Even though it can be used for psychic development, meditation is not strictly an occult practice as some people think. Meditation is highly recommended by doctors and scientists too! There are a lot of health benefits to reap from meditating. Meditation is a great stress management tool. Stress is the number one way to destroy your health and this is the easiest way to stay balanced. We only need 15-20 minutes per day. When your mindset is balanced and you are relaxed, you feel better. If you make this a part of your weekly routine, you will feel great! When you feel good mentally and emotionally, you become better in every way, even on the physical level. There have been scientific studies showing an improvement in pain, blood pressure, depression, and a bunch of other things.
I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t have a meditation schedule. Instead of trying to meditate every morning or something like that, I just keep track of how often I meditate and for how long. I know if I meditate a certain amount of time each week that I find it much easier to “tune in” the rest of the time. If I procrastinate when I know I need to meditate, then I’ll start to notice myself feeling stuck or irritated about things in my personal life. Everyone has human instinct, which is intuitively based (not to be confused with common sense lol). Some people naturally have stronger intuition than others, for some reason. But everyone can become more intuitive by learning how to train your brain to be still and receptive, rather than transmitting all the time. I meditate often but it’s not something I’m religious about and you shouldn’t be either.
People seem to find a way to beat themselves up even when they’re doing something good. We do this with diets, exercise, and pretty much everything else, including meditation. That’s stressful and stress is no good, as I said earlier. When someone who’s working on psychic development tells me that they’re running into problems, the first thing I’ll ask them is how often they are meditating. Often, they’ll start out with something like, “Well, I was doing really well but I admit I’ve been slacking on it. I just can’t seem to do it because (insert explanation here).” Then they will proceed to talk about what a loser they are. If you automatically start self-deprecating, that also tells me that more meditation is needed. We’re all doing the best we can. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself!
How to Get Started
I find the easiest way to learn new things is in small steps. Most people try to skip a few steps once they think they get it, but that’s usually where they get stuck. So today, I’m not going to talk about anything advanced. Simply start by finding a place where you can sit comfortably and focus on your breathing. Breathe in and then breathe out. There is no need to concentrate. Make the decision ahead of time that whatever thoughts and/or emotions that may happen to arise while you are focusing on your breath are going to be acknowledged and released.
Notice I didn’t say figure out why you feel a certain way or why you are thinking about a certain thing. If you find yourself asking why, remember you are allowing these thoughts to exist rather than answering them. This is not the time to figure everything out, although your mind will probably be running with all the thoughts of the day. You’re not going to make decisions while meditating because meditation is focused on the present moment; not the future; not the past. So all you have to do is breathe in, breathe out, and allow. Eventually the chatter will subside and the only thing you will hear is the sound of your breathing. At that point you can be finished if you want to be. Some people need to meditate a few times before they are able to clear their mind of thoughts. That’s okay too.
There are lots of things we can do to improve our quality of life while meditating. This often has to do with visualizing or setting intentions. But when you’re trying to learn how or if you start to bump into problems or resistance, just go back to focusing on your breath. The only goal is relaxation, which allows your breath to carry your thoughts away. When your mind is clear, you can decide what you want to do next. Some people simply enjoy being in the moment. Others will visualize roots grounding them to the earth or surrounding themselves in white light. You can do these things too if you want to, but just go at your own pace. Anytime you feel pressured or like you’re screwing it up, slow down and breathe easy again.
If you are a psychic empath or medium who is trying to develop your skills, meditation is the first and most important step. Once your mind is clear, you are ready to receive intuitive guidance or messages from Spirit. If your mind is chattering when you try to channel, then all of your own thoughts and emotions will cloud your message. This is one reason psychics find it difficult to get a clear reading about our own personal lives. Even though I’m psychic myself, I still go to other mediums or tarot consultants when I want a reading because I know they can be unbiased about my problems when I can’t.
Regular meditation gives you the ability and the skill to quiet your mind quickly when needed. I used to live in a corner house one block away from the store. Over time, so many people cut across the corner of the lawn that a clear path was worn. Once the path was visible, more people automatically cut across the lawn and this widened the path. They didn’t have to think about it or analyze it once they saw it there. More people took the path as it widened because it was easier than walking across grass. The same thing happens with the psychic pathways in your mind when you meditate regularly. It can also happen in reverse. Let’s say I put up a fence so people couldn’t cut across. Eventually, as the path is used less it will begin to grow over until it is barely visible or it disappears. Being able to still your mind on command is a valuable skill. What will you use it for?
